Karolina Dean | 20 | Sophomore | Runaways | FC: Saoirse Ronan
"Where I’m going, I’ll never have to do that again. I can finally stop pretending to be something I’m not."
You may not recognize Karolina Dean but you’ve probably heard of her parents, Frank and Leslie Dean, two of Hollywood’s greatest stars. You might think being raised in LA with two starlets would make Karolina into a self centered, blonde princess, but that’s one stereotype that Karolina just does not fit. A strict vegan and a self-proclaimed champion of the small and downtrodden, she is quick to put others before herself. She’s true to the values and the things she believes in, which at times may be a bit odd. New age beliefs fascinate her and she has been put on record more than once claiming she and her parents are aliens.
Her own personal beliefs and enlightened lifestyle choices clashed with the flashy and expensive culture of Hollywood and her parents. Most days she wished to just escape and live a simpler life. One day, she made good on her dreams and set off from home. Within days she was returned to her family after she was found living on a farm. After five subsequent escape attempts and increasingly bad press the point was made and her parents quietly made arrangements for her to live the simpler life even further out of the eyes of the paparazzi. Finally, there was enough distance between her and her parents for Karolina to finally cut all ties. If her parents don’t know where she is, they certainly won’t let anyone else know that.
The only downside to living life as a normal person all on her own is that she is all on her own. Karolina is a social person and at times quite gullible since it’s easy for her to see the good in people. She was lucky to find and become friends with Nico Minoru, who is much more reasonable and in touch with the way of the world. Karolina loves to make her smile and bring away the gloom of their parentless, almost nomadic life, perhaps in part because of her own romantic feelings for the stunning girl. Then there’s Chase Stein, Karolina’s friend and most difficult case yet. Someday she’ll get past that tough exterior of his and get him to embrace his true self and ask out his obvious crush and she’ll do whatever it takes.
After a difficult life on the road, it was an easy choice once she graduated high school to pursue a college degree. While she might not appreciate the archaic system that is the collegiate program, Karolina knows that with a degree in Sociology and child development she can really help the unfortunate people and children of the world.
